TCS Racing typically competes in three types of events : Motorkhanas/GymkhanasThese events, popular due to their low-cost to run, are popular with many New Zealand car clubs and are probably held more often than any other type of event. Typically these events are run on grass paddocks, although they can be held in gravel pits or sealed areas (such as car parks). The winner is usually the car with the best time through a given course, with each course being marked out by cones or similar markers. Motorkhanas require control, finesse and precision from the driver rather than outright horsepower. Only one vehicle runs the course at a time.AutocrossesThese events are timed laps around a short race track, usually marked out with cones. These events are also typically held on unsealed surfaces such as grass and gravel, but usually involve higher speeds than Motorkhanas. Only one vehicle runs the course at a time, and the vehicle with the best time wins.HillclimbsThese events are usually held on gravel or sealed surfaces. Vehicles are usually run one or two at a time and race up (or sometimes down) a hill. Again this type of event usually involves higher speeds than a Motorkhana. The winner is again the vehicle with the best timed run.SprintsThere are two primary types of sprint, Sprints and Bent Sprints. A (straight) Sprint event is a drag race, however a Bent Sprint involves a circuit of some sort and these types of events are often held on race tracks or closed roads. This sort of event is usually where horsepower is extremely useful, although it by no means makes up for driver skill. This is our teams favourite type of event but as they cost more for clubs to run opportunities for competing in them are fewer than other event types.TCS Racing is currently looking for opportunities to branch out into Circuit racing, and once our vehicles are fitted with appropriate safety equipment (roll cages etc) will be seeking entry into some Rally/Rallysprint events. In addition to these events, we will also consider competing in or visiting events such as Night Drags at Meremere, car shows, or the Four & Rotary Nationals if our sponsors would like the extra publicity associated with these events. |
