Hillclimb, Bayers Farm, March 2005

We had good weather for this event, which was just as well because we were plagued by a few other problems but luckily none of them major. The team started early as the car still hadn't been washed since the last event and Troy had to take it to a commercial wash station in Albany before heading to Bayers Farm which is a few minutes out of Silverdale. First though, Troy and Timothy had to drive out to Jeff's place and with Jeff's asistance put the car on the trailer and pack the various tools and equipment. Both Troy and Tim managed to arrive in well in time for documentation and scrutineering despite this which was more than Jeff managed - he was held up by a blown tire on the club caravan he was towing up. Timothy was driving the teams Subaru Omega which is currently running quite poorly, the engine isn't putting out as much power as it did initially (and it wasn't that fast to begin with). Still he put in a good time this considered and was narrowly beaten by Samuel Stubbs in his Toyota Starlet. Tim started on a time of approximately 1:06 and got down to around 1:03. Troy and Jeff were sharing SO863. Troy's times started around 1:07 and his best time was approximately 58 seconds. This was an excellent result for Troy particularly given how slippery the course was. Jeff started on about 56 seconds which was the fastest time of the day at that point but in the end was beaten by Eric Uhe who managed a 54, while Jeffs best was a 55. Unfortunately the day did not run totally to plan. Troy left his lunch 'in his other car' and on his fourth run the right rear sub-frame on the car broke. This put the car out of action for the rest of the day and it will need repairs before it can be used again. The scrutineer also suggested we look at the steering rack too as he felt some movement in it that wasn't quite right. This was the first time Troy or Tim had driven the hillclimb road at Bayers Farm. The course is very intersting with some deep cuttings, both hair-pin and sweeper corners, grass and gravel surfaces and even a 'yump'. It was a good day overall and the team enjoyed themselves. We'll definitely be looking forward to competing at Bayers again. Thanks to Trevor & Anne Bayer for the use of the venue and to all the organisers and volunteers who ran the event. Results for
