New Zealand Rally Icon In Serious Condition

One of New Zealand's biggest Rally icons,  Possum Bourne,   is reported as being in a serious but stable condition after an accident that occurred during the 'Race To The Sky' event.

Details are sketchy,  but apparently Possum was driving a non-competition car down a hill when he collided with a 4x4 vehicle heading in the opposite vehicle.  Tne driver of the other vehicle suffered a broken leg,  although his passenger was uninjured.

Police estimate the speed of both vehicles to have been less than 60 kph.  Possum was wearing a seat belt and it is believed his vehicle was on the correct side of the road when the accident occurred,  however dust may have limited visibility and been a factor in the accident.

Possum has undergone surgery to have pins inserted into his broken legs,  and is currently in a drug-induced coma.

We wish Possum a swift and full recovery,  and send our best wishes to his family in what must be a very worrisome time for them.
