TCS Racing Loses Primary Vehicle In Crash

In a sad turn of events TCS Racing lost its primary race car at a hillclimb run by the Hibiscus Coast Motorsport Club at a farm North of Whangerei during the Anniversary Weekend of 2003.  Luckily no one was harmed during the accident.

The vehicle,  driven at the time by Troy Willmot,  left the gravel road being used for the hillclimb and then slid along a grassy patch before crumpling due to impact with a large tree.  The vehicle,  a Toyota MR2 (registration ME8579) had its front end destroyed beyond repair (for reasonable time or money) by the impact,  however the tree did prevent it from finishing upside down in a small creek which would not have been good for the driver.  The mid and rear section of the car containing the engine, gear box, clutch, rear shocks and other useful parts is still intact.

The accident was largely caused by driver error,  but was not helped by an uneven road and poor front shock absorbers which may have lead to the vehicle skipping slightly into a deeper section of gravel causing the initial loss of traction.

At this time the team has plans to remove the remaining useable parts from the wreck and use them to rebuild a second car they had been planning to use as spares for the now defunct vehicle.  The team still intends to buy an additional vehicle.
